The best types of rice’s for this dish are long-grain varieties such as the ones that maintain their shape and stay fluffy. Think along the lines of jasmine rice, basmati rich as they have long, slender grains that possess a very delicate nutty flavour. Now, if you like chewier rice, consider a medium-grain rice.

Instruction

A small or medium pot will suffice for this recipe; however, the size will depend on the portion of rice that you are cooking, so choose accordingly. Add a generous amount of butter to the pot. Add the sliced garlic cloves and sauté for three to four minutes. Once the garlic has been caramelized, it will have a nuttier taste, and the butter will enhance the garlicky flavours of this dish.

Thereafter, add the washed grains of rice to the pot. Mix the rice along with the garlic and sauté for one minute. Add the water, bay leaves, and the chicken stock cube.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Garlic butter rice will last for two to three days. It also freezes well and can last for three months in the freezer. Thaw and defrost on the countertop. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.

If you purchase from a known brand and rinse the rice with the water running clear each time, the rice will likely be washed before packaging. In this case, you won’t have to keep rinsing the rice until the water runs clear. It will likely be clear after one or two rinses.

The ratio of Rice to Water

The ratio of Rice and water is paramount to making the perfect fluffy Rice. The ratio is 1:2, for example, 1 cup of Rice and 2 cups of water. You can adjust the rice quantity according to the food portion. One cup of rice will serve three to four persons.

  • Cook the rice: Add water, bay leaves, and the chicken stock cube to the pot. Bring the water to a boil with the lid closed. Adjust the heat to the lowest temperature and simmer for 13-14 minutes. Scoop the rice from the bottom up. Garnish with fresh parsley to serve.
