There are few dishes that capture the rustic charm and robust flavors of Lamb Chops with Relish. This is a unique recipe that works hand in hand with two other recipes. Mashed potatoes and tomato relish, the combination of the flavors complement one another and create a unforgettable feast.
This is the type of meal that you would enjoy on a cold snowy night in a fancy bistro. Amidst the ambiance of loved ones or friends, it would be a memorable experience. Creating this meal at home is perfect for times when you want you a fancy meal at home, but you don’t want to go out. Let’s dive into what makes this dish unique and how to perfect it.
Firstly, this dish can be customized according to your preference, you can select your choice of protein, you can also add your choice of salad to complete the dish. Lamb chops are tender and rich with flavor. It is prepared using simple ingredients on a grill pan, the natural flavors of the lamb are absolutely delicious when paired with a tomato relish and creamy mashed potatoes.
The tomato relish acts as a fancy accessory to the lamb chops. The sweetness and tanginess of the tomatoes complement the richness of the buttery mashed potatoes. The combinations of these flavors cut through the richness of the meat, adding contrast and depth.
Lamb chops, Onions, Tomatoes, Paprika, Oregano, Basil, Salt, Pepper, Worcestershire sauce, Tomato Paste, Garlic cloves, Brown Sugar, Fresh Parsley.
Lamb chops has a tender texture with a rich flavor. Opt for grass-fed lamb chops for the best taste. Other favorable pieces of meat include loin chops, rib chops or shoulder chops. Lamb chops offer a beautiful sear on the outside while remaining juicy on the inside.
When it comes to Tomato relish, the vibrancy of the tomatoes will elevate the richness of the lamb chops. Onions form the base of the relish. Finely chopped and caramelized, it offers a sweet and savory flavor. The tomatoes which form the foundation of the relish add a tangy flavor and also a pop of color. Seated on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes, the multitude of flavors create a symphony. To increase the flavor of the tomato relish, consider adding 1/4 cup of red wine.
Paprika adds a smokey flavor to the relish, whilst oregano and basil represent the Mediterranean aspect of the dish. The earthy aroma pairs beautifully with the lamb and mashed potatoes. Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar increases the complexity of the relish and helps to balance the tanginess. Tomato paste increases the tomatoeey flavor. Garlic cloves adds heat, whereas the parsley creates a fresh note which is herbaceous in nature. Salt and pepper are essential.
Cook the Relish: Finely mince the garlic and onion. Saute until it is golden brown. Add the spices. Add the finely chopped tomatoes (For a quicker route, add the onions and garlic to a blender, grind. Remove onto the pot, thereafter grind the tomatoes and add to the pot).
This process should take approximately ten minutes. Thereafter, take the blended tomatoes with tomato paste. Add it to the pot. Mix well and cook for fifteen minutes. Add a small amount of water and let it simmer for ten minutes on medium low heat.
Mashed Potatoes: Boil the potatoes in a pot of water. After the potatoes have softened up, remove the potatoes from the water. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher and mix with sour cream and butter. Add salt and pepper. Set it aside.
Prepare the Lamb Chops: Preheat the pot to medium-high. Wash the Lamb Chops and pat dry. Add olive oil. Thereafter, add the lamb chops and brown. This should take 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove the chops and place onto a plate, then set aside. Cover and let it rest.
Assemble: Add the mashed potatoes on a plate. Add the tomato relish on top. Add the grilled lamb chops.
This recipe should be paired with Garlic bread, naan, baguette. Creamy mashed potatoes goes well with it, also consider serving a salad alongside your relish.
Store for three to four days in the refrigerator. If you choose to freeze the the chops, it will last for three months in the freezer. To thaw, remove from freezer and heat on the stove or in the microwave.
Best cuts of meat: There are a few meats that will work well in this recipe. Consider Lamb Shoulder for its rich flavor, its perfect for slow cooking and tenderizes perfectly when braised. Consider adding a splash of red wine to deepen the flavors. Lamb Shanks are another great choice, with plenty of connective tissue that will break down during cooking.
Lamb Ribs, this cut of meat will be really soft compared to Lamb chops. As it is already soft and tender, the cooking time will reduce significantly. Meats that won’t work well in this dish are Lamb Loin or Lamb neck and Lamb Shoulder.
