So, I’m sure you’re wondering, what will the Baked Chicken wings taste like? Well, they are incredibly tender, soft, and moist. The smoky, tangy flavours are powerfully present in the dish.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings, Hoisin sauce, Cooking oil, Soy sauce, Sesame seed oil, Rice vinegar, Sugar, Water, Garlic powder, Ginger powder, Paprika powder.

There are different types of chicken wings; some are considered whole wings, which include the flat part, tip, and drumette. The separated wings contain only the drumettes and the flats. Whole wings work well in recipes that have different textures, while separated wings will ensure that the sauce adheres evenly to the meat.

For this recipe, we’ve used separate wings. Fresh chicken wings are preferred. However, frozen chicken wings can also be used in this recipe. Keeping the skin on will ensure that the outside texture has a slight crispiness to it.

Smaller chicken wings will cook faster and produce a more tender dish. If you’re using larger chicken wings, you may need to increase the baking time in the oven by 5 to 10 minutes. Use a thermometer to check the internal temperature to determine the level of doneness.

Hoisin sauce along with Rice vinegar add a special flavour to this dish, it gives it a slightly Asiatic flair, however it creates a very smoky flavour. If you don’t have hoisin sauce, you can add produce a variation of it using soy sauce, peanut butter and rice vinegar. Sesame seed oil adds a nutty flavour to this dish. Spices such as garlic powder, ginger powder and paprika powder add to the flavours of this dish.

Instructions

Prepare the ingredients: Prepare a small bowl and add Hoisin sauce, cooking oil, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, water, sugar, ginger powder, garlic powder and paprika powder. Thoroughly rinse the chicken wings in water and set them aside.

Coat the chicken wings: Mix the barbecue sauce blend with a small spoon and stir. Pour the mixture onto the chicken wings and toss them from the bottom up to coat the chicken with the sauce. Make sure all the surfaces of the wings are coated evenly. Reserve some barbecue sauce as you will need a second coating at the halfway mark, during the baking process.

Place the chicken wings on the mesh tray: Place the chicken wings on the mesh baking tray. It helps to use the mesh tray for the chicken to bake, even the bottom side. This tray is also convenient as there is no need to flip the chicken wings halfway through the baking.

Bake the chicken wings: Preheat the oven to 180ºC, and then bake the chicken wings for thirty minutes with the fan on. Thereafter, remove the tray from the oven, coat the chicken wings with the remaining sauce, and put the wings back in the oven. This time, lower the temperature to 150ºC and bake for another fifteen minutes with the fan off. Drizzle fresh lime juice and serve with sides to enjoy the delicious baked chicken wings.

What to Serve with Barbeque Chicken Wings?

Barbecue chicken wings have a slightly sweet, savoury, and tangy flavour. Consider serving with steamed jasmine rice or garlic bread. Combining steamed rice and the barbecue baked chicken wings will perfectly harmonize taste and texture. Fried rice with eggs and spring onion kimchi will also pair well with the chicken wings. Pickled vegetables or fresh green salad will contrast with the richness of the chicken wings.

How do you store and reheat Barbecue Chicken Wings?

Allow the Barbecue chicken wings to cool completely before storing them in the fridge. Once cooled down, store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Chicken wings can be stored in the refrigerator for four to five days. The baked chicken wings can be stored in the deep freeze for up to three months.

There are a few options to reheat the barbecue chicken wings. For convenience, the quickest method is to use the microwave. Place the chicken wings on a plate, cover with a microwave-safe lid, and spin for two minutes. If the chicken wings are not fully warm, turn the wings around and spin for another minute.

Another benefit is using the stovetop to reheat the barbecue chicken wings, which results in slightly crispy wings. Set the stovetop temperature to medium-low heat, and add the chicken wings and one tablespoon of cooking oil to a pan. Initially, cover the lid and reheat for two minutes. Then, remove the lid and toss the wings around for another two minutes to evenly heat the wings. Thaw the chicken wings if frozen and follow the steps mentioned above.
