When it comes to home-cooked food, few things can compare to the mouth-watering flavours of barbecue chicken wings. These chicken wings are incredibly tender, soft, and moist. The smoky and tangy flavors are prominently present in the dish.

The best part about these barbecue chicken wings is that you can either fry or grill them. If you choose to fry them, simply brush on the barbecue sauce at the end of the frying process. For grilling, apply the sauce at both the beginning and end of the grilling session. You might be wondering what the baked chicken wings taste like.

There are different types of chicken wings; some are considered whole wings, which include the flat part, tip, and drumette. The separated wings contain only the drumettes and the flats. Smaller chicken wings will cook faster and produce a more tender dish.
If you’re using larger chicken wings, you may need to increase the oven baking time by 5 to 10 minutes. Use a thermometer to check the internal temperature to determine the level of doneness. Hoisin sauce, along with Rice vinegar, adds a special flavour to this dish; it gives it a slightly Asian flair and also creates a very smoky flavour.
If you don’t have hoisin sauce, you can make a variation using soy sauce, peanut butter, and rice vinegar. Sesame seed oil adds a nutty flavour to this dish. Spices such as garlic powder, ginger powder, and paprika powder add to the flavours of this dish.
Prepare a small bowl and add Hoisin sauce, cooking oil, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, water, sugar, ginger powder, garlic powder, and paprika powder. Mix the barbecue sauce blend with a small spoon and stir.

Thoroughly rinse the chicken wings in water and set them aside. Pour the barbecue sauce over the chicken wings and toss them from the bottom up to coat them. Make sure all the surfaces of the wings are coated evenly. Reserve some barbecue sauce, as you will need to baste the chicken wings again, halfway through the baking process.
Arrange the chicken wings on a baking tray fitted with a wire rack. This setup allows air to circulate around the wings, ensuring they cook evenly on both the top and bottom. For easier cleanup after cooking, you can line the bottom of the tray with foil or parchment paper.

Preheat the oven to 180ºC, and then bake the chicken wings for thirty minutes with the fan on. Thereafter, remove the tray from the oven, coat the chicken wings with the remaining sauce, and put the wings back in the oven. This time, lower the temperature to 150ºC and bake for another fifteen minutes with the fan off.

Drizzle fresh lime juice and serve with sides to enjoy the delicious baked chicken wings. This dish is hands-off and baked in the oven, making it perfect for family gatherings, barbecues, and cosy nights at home.
Barbecue chicken wings have a slightly sweet, savoury, and tangy flavour. Consider serving with steamed jasmine rice or garlic bread. Fried rice with eggs and spring onion kimchi will also pair well with the chicken wings. Pickled vegetables or a fresh green salad will contrast with the richness of the chicken wings.
Allow the barbecue chicken wings to cool completely before refrigerating. Once they are cooled, place them in an airtight container. Chicken wings can be stored in the fridge for four to five days, while baked chicken wings can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. There are a few options for reheating barbecue chicken wings. The quickest method is to use a microwave. Place the wings on a plate, cover them with a microwave-safe lid, and heat for two minutes. If they are not fully warm, turn the wings around and heat for an additional minute.
Reheating the wings on the stovetop is also possible; in fact, it will make them slightly crispy. Set the stovetop to medium-low heat, add the chicken wings and 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to a pan, and cover the pan. Heat for two minutes, then remove the lid and toss the wings for another two minutes to heat them evenly. If the wings are frozen, thaw them before following these steps.
