Honey Garlic Chicken Breast covered in a tantalizing honey glaze that coats the chicken breasts. This dish has two primary ingredients that work well together: Honey & Garlic.
Together these two ingredients create a flavorful dish. The chicken breasts are coated in flour and pan-seared in some butter, thus resulting in a delicious crisp crust.
So let’s talk about the origin of the Honey Garlic Chicken Breast. This recipe is popular in Chinese cuisines, especially in North America where you can order this dish at most Chinese restaurants.
Chicken breast, Garlic, Honey, Peanuts, Apple Cider Vinegar, Salt, Black Pepper, Paprika.
Chicken breast serves as the main protein, it is lean and tender and forms an ideal base that absorbs the flavors well. The combination of honey, garlic and peanuts creates a delicious dish that is crunchy, sweet and savory. Apple cider vinegar adds a tangy acidity that balances out the honey. Paprika and salt enhances the flavor of the dish.
You will need mustard sauce, salt, paprika, black pepper powder, apple cider vinegar. Finely chop your garlic and peanuts. Peanuts are not traditionally used in this dish, however, it adds a lovely crunch to the chicken breast and it also ensures that there is a balance between the sweet honey and caramelized garlic.
Prepare the chicken: Thoroughly wash your chicken breast and pat dry with a paper towel. Add white flour to a bowl. Dip your chicken breast in the flour to ensure that it properly coated on both sides. Depending on the moisture of your chicken, you can repeat this process to ensure that it is well-coated.
The next step is to dust off your chicken breast properly, you do not want any lumps of flour clinging to either side of the meat.
Cook the Chicken: Add a dollop of butter to your pre-heated pan. It will be optimal to heat your pan to medium-high heat. Add garlic and saute for two minutes. Thereafter, add your chicken breasts. Do not overcrowd the pan with chicken breast.
Thereafter, flip your chicken breast. When your chicken breast has a lovely browning as shown in the below picture, it means that the chicken will have a nice firm, crisp coating.
Flip your chicken breast at a minute interval and make sure that the garlic is moving along the bottom of the pan. This will prevent the garlic from burning. Add two to three tablespoons of water & vinegar.
Notice the garlic? Its has a beautiful carameralization! The crispy bits of garlic add a lovely garlicky flavor that complements the honey and peanuts.
Add the spices: Add your soy sauce and the spices in at this point in the corner of the fry pan. Do not add it on top of the chicken breast. The purpose of the spices is to create the sauce, you will use the sauce at a later stage to baste the chicken. However, if you chuck the spices on top of the chicken breast, there will be pockets of spice that will overly flavor one part of the chicken and not the other.
Add honey: Add your honey in at this point. Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula. Mix the sauce and spices together. Start basting your chicken breast with sauce. Flip over and baste some more. Make sure that both sides are well-coated.
Nuts and Mushroom: Add nuts on the top of the chicken and remove from pan. Plate the chicken. Add your nuts to the best side of the chicken breast. This will be the part that has the most crispiness. Lightly saute some mushroom on the pan.
There are many dishes that will complement this recipe. Consider pairing it with Steamed rice, Roast Vegetables, Mashed Potatoes, Garlic Asparagus or a Classic Caesar’s salad. (You can slice up your Honey Garlic chicken breast and serve on top of the salad).
