By combining honey, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar in a bowl, you create a truly delightful flavor combination. Honey and mustard chicken is truly special. The golden honey, paired with the sharp mustard, creates a delightful coating for the juicy chicken. This dish has a unique flavor profile that leans toward Asian-inspired tastes. If you’ve ever tried teriyaki chicken, you are probably familiar with the umami flavors that are sweet, salty, and tangy. Honey and mustard chicken is a close variation of that recipe. Give it a try, and you’ll see!
Chicken breast, Butter, Garlic cloves, Dijon Mustard, Soy Sauce, Honey, Salt, Pepper, Paprika, Apple Cider Vinegar.
Chicken breasts are the main protein component of this dish, but you can also use shrimp, beef, or turkey. One of the things I love about chicken breasts is that they are a fairly lean protein; however, they can be relatively mild in flavor. To enhance their taste, a delicious honey mustard sauce can be used.
Butter is not traditionally included in honey mustard chicken recipes, but we’ve found it helpful to cook the chicken breasts in butter to achieve a light golden browning. Plus, this technique enhances the overall flavor. Adding garlic cloves introduces a savory quality to the dish, complementing the sweetness of the honey and the tanginess of the mustard.
Dijon mustard contributes a complex flavor to the overall dish. It is important to choose Dijon mustard instead of regular mustard, as the latter tends to have a muted flavor. You can use any brand of Dijon mustard, as many competing brands are just as good as the classic French varieties. Additionally, we’ve chosen dark soy sauce to add a salty, umami kick to the dish. This ingredient also gives the chicken breast a lovely dark color and creates a harmonious balance of flavors. You can use any vegetables you have in your pantry for this dish, such as mushrooms, baby corn, baby carrots, broccolini, or asparagus.
Rinse the chicken breasts under running water and pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Clean and slice the garlic cloves. Cut the chicken into bite-sized cubes.

Turn the stove on to medium-high heat. Add butter to the pan and then add the sliced garlic cloves. Next, add the chicken cubes and cook for a few minutes until the juices begin to seep out of the chicken. At this point, reduce the heat to medium-low. Lightly season the chicken with salt and pepper, and allow it to cook until it turns golden brown. Once the chicken is golden, turn off the stove.

Make the honey and mustard sauce. Add the ingredients such as Dijon mustard, honey, apple-cider vinegar, paprika powder, and soy sauce to a small bowl and mix well.

Thereafter, drizzle the chicken breast with the sauce to coat it. Mix well. Turn the stove to medium-low and cook for 3 more minutes. This will help the chicken to absorb the flavours of the sauce.

Optionally, slice some red bell peppers and trim the ends off the green beans. Heat oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the bell peppers and green beans, and cook for 3 minutes. Gently sauteing the green beans will ensure that it remains crunchy and full of flavour.

Serve immediately on top of freshly made rice and enjoy! Honey and mustard chicken is a delicious and simple recipe to make at home.
Pilaf rice is fluffy and fulfilling. The Honey mustard sauce alongside the rice will make every bite of this meal delicious and enjoyable. Mashed potatoes are also an amazing side dish to serve with the Honey mustard chicken. It adds comfort thanks to its smooth, creamy texture. If you are a fan of greens in your meal, this recipe will be perfect for a Green salad. Fresh vegetables will balance the richness of the Honey mustard chicken by adding contrasting texture and flavour to the dish.
Allow the Honey Mustard chicken to cool down before storing it in the fridge. Storing the chicken in an airtight container is essential to preserving the food. Honey mustard chicken can be stored for up to three to four days, and frozen chicken can be stored for up to three months. It is best to avoid microwaving the frozen chicken, as it releases water while thawing. If you are not in the mood to wait for thawing, place the thawed chicken in the preheated oven at 180ºC/350ºF and reheat for 10 minutes. You can reheat the refrigerated honey mustard chicken on the stovetop. To do so, place the chicken in a pan and adjust the heat to medium-low. Keeping the heat low will let you control the cooking without burning the chicken. Reheat all sides of the chicken for two minutes on each side.
