Today, we are making tomato salsa, which is incredibly delicious! It is packed with vibrant tomato flavors and fresh garden herbs. When the Spaniards discovered Mexico in the 1500s, they also encountered this wonderful dish.

Tomato salsa is simple and easy to make, so it is little wonder that it is one of the most beloved dishes in the world. The blend of tomatoes, peppers, spices, and onions creates a medley of flavors that ignites the senses. Salsa can be traced back to the ancient civilizations of the Aztecs, the Maya, and the Incas. It’s a taste of summer with a touch of heat and can set your taste buds ablaze. You’ll have a flavourful tomato salsa with a few simple ingredients that can elevate your meals.
Tomatoes, Onion, Parsley, Lemon, Salt, White pepper, Cumin.
Ripe tomatoes form the base of this recipe; they add a natural sweetness and tang to the dish. Choose ripe, slightly firm tomatoes. Thinly sliced onions add a sweetness and robust undertone to this dish. This ensures the onion’s sharpness does not overpower the tomatoes’ flavor. Fresh parsley adds a refreshing taste and a pop of color to the dish. In the traditional recipe, salsa uses Coriander; however, in this recipe, we’re using parsley because we prefer its flavor to Coriander’s.
A splash of lemon adds a zesty tang and balances the richness of the spices. Salt and White pepper are essential ingredients. White pepper has a milder taste than black pepper. Cumin adds a warm, nutty, smoky flavor to the dish. You can finely chop your tomatoes or leave them chunky for texture. You can add lime juice and up the heat with sliced jalapeno chilies. Consider adding avocado for extra creaminess.
Wash the tomatoes and onion thoroughly. Dice the tomatoes into small pieces and finely chop the onion. Rinse the parsley under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Remove the stems and finely chop the parsley leaves.

Cut the lime in half and extract the juice. Add the lime juice to the chopped tomato and onion. Add cumin, white pepper, and salt to the tomato salsa. Fresh lime juice adds a tangy acidity to the salsa. Combine your diced tomatoes, chopped onion, and parsley, and season with salt, pepper, and cumin to taste. Cumin adds a warm, earthy flavor to your salsa.
Once the salsa is prepared, refrigerate it immediately. Store it in an airtight container to prevent exposure to air. Freezing this salsa is not recommended. Adding lime juice will help preserve the salsa. Use a clean spoon to scoop out only the amount you need; avoid dipping chips directly into the salsa, as this can lead to contamination and shorten its shelf life. Store it in the fridge for two to four days. However, it’s important to note that once lime juice and salt are added to the salsa, they will draw water from the tomatoes, making the salsa soggy. Therefore, consume this salsa as quickly as possible, or consider making it fresh.
You can serve Tomato Salsa with tortilla chips or alongside your tacos or quesadillas. This condiment pairs well with meat or huevos rancheros. Several other dishes complement tomato salsa, so pair it with fajitas, burritos, and omelets. Also, consider serving the tomato salsa at barbecues, as it complements Grilled meat and cuts through the richness of steaks, chops, and sausages. Diced mango and pineapple can add a tropical twist.
