Today, we are preparing sautéed spinach. This dish is more than just a simple side; it’s full of flavor. It is quick to make, utilizes easy-to-find ingredients, and the flavors can be easily adjusted to your preference.

We recommend using baby spinach for this recipe because it is more tender and less fibrous. If using large spinach leaves, slice them into 2-inch pieces and increase the cooking time to 4 minutes.
Baby spinach, Garlic, salt, ground black pepper, and extra virgin olive oil.
The main ingredient of this dish is fresh baby spinach, enhanced with spices, garlic, black pepper, and salt. For added flavor, you might consider incorporating Parmesan or Grana Padano cheese. Using extra virgin olive oil will impart a slight fruity taste to the spinach. For an extra burst of flavor, try adding red pepper flakes and a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the spinach’s taste. This simple side dish pairs well with grilled fish or meat and can also be added to salad bowls for a light and nutritious meal.
Wash the baby spinach thoroughly and shake off any excess water. Finely chop the garlic and gather some salt and pepper. Preheat a pan over medium-low heat, then drizzle in the olive oil and add the garlic. Sauté the garlic for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring continuously. Next, add the baby spinach and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring continuously. As it cooks, the spinach will shrink and turn a darker green.
When preparing this dish, it’s important to use the right amount of spinach. For each person, it is advisable to use 200 grams of spinach since it will significantly reduce in volume when cooked. The liquid released by the spinach, combined with the spices, enhances the dish’s flavor. Be cautious not to overcook the spinach, as it can become dry. To serve, garnish the dish with sesame seeds. If you prefer, you can substitute butter for the extra-virgin olive oil. This will create a creamy and nutty flavor in the sautéed spinach.
Grilled chicken with lemon and herb pairs wonderfully with sautéed spinach. The tenderness of the chicken and zesty lemon and herb flavours complement the rich earthiness of the spinach in perfect balance. Rich and fatty fish match well with the sautéed spinach and enhance the natural flavours of the two ingredients. The earthy taste of the sautéed spinach complements the savoury flavour of the succulent steak and creates a perfect balance of the flavours.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 2 to 4 days. Freezing is not recommended.
