Lime Butter Sauce

Many of us know and love lemon butter sauce, but have you ever given lime butter sauce a try? Both limes and lemons are fantastic for adding zest to seafood dishes, but each brings its own unique flavor to the table.

Usually, when I’m grilling fish, I stick with good old lemon butter sauce to enhance the flavors. But one day, I opened the fridge and realized I was out of lemons! All I had were limes, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” Let me tell you, that little experiment turned out to be a big hit! The lime butter sauce I whipped up exceeded my expectations.

What’s really exciting is how well lime and butter dance together, creating a delightful balance of flavors that can elevate everything from fish and shrimp to even red meat. This lime butter sauce is super easy to make at home, and it truly elevates your meal. You can use it as a finishing touch or a dip for your seafood. While limes have a bit of a bitter kick compared to lemons, when you mix them with brown butter, garlic, and just a hint of tamarind sauce, you end up with a scrumptious condiment that combines rich butter, zesty lime, and tangy tamarind.

Ingredients

Limes, Butter, Garlic cloves, Thai Red Chili, Parsley, Tamarind sauce, Fish Sauce, Salt.

When you brown the butter just right, it gets this delicious nutty flavor that pairs beautifully with garlic cloves and, if you’re feeling adventurous, a Thai red chili for a nice kick. The tamarind sauce brings a delightful tanginess and a hint of sweetness to the mix. And don’t forget a sprinkle of fresh parsley on top for a pop of color and freshness!

Now, let’s talk about fish sauce—it adds a unique savory depth to the dish that’s just amazing! It’s especially great in a lime-butter sauce for seafood. But if you’re whipping up something with red meat, you can easily swap the fish sauce for Worcestershire sauce in the same amount. This little change works wonders when you’re switching up proteins.

Instructions

Place a pan on the stove and set the heat to medium-low. Add the butter to the pan and allow it to melt. Initially, it will appear milky, but then it will begin to bubble and turn a light golden hue. That’s an indication that the butter has browned to perfection.

Add the finely diced garlic and sliced red chilies to the pan. The garlic will quickly brown, infusing the butter with its flavors. Add the tamarind sauce, fish sauce, and lime juice to the sauce and mix rapidly to ensure that it is properly combined.

Once the ingredients are infused into one another, add a light amount of parsley to the sauce and serve with your favourite seafood dish. This lime-butter condiment is the perfect accompaniment to most seafood dishes; it adds a light, balanced, and rich flavour to the main meal.

What can you serve with Lime butter sauce?

You can serve this sauce with several seafood dishes. Consider grilled white fish, prawns, and shrimp as possibilities. You can also drizzle this sauce onto roasted vegetables, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. With the exclusion of fish sauce, you can add this lime butter sauce on top of Grilled lamb chops and Rib-eye beef. You can use this lime butter sauce as a base for grilling steak, lamb chops, and more.

How to store Lime butter sauce?

Store in the fridge for three to five days in an airtight container—Reheat in the microwave or a small pan. If you’re making a large amount, you can add a neutral oil such as grapeseed oil to extend its shelf life.
